Friday, 03 April 2009 00:00

per_pettersonThe Norwegian author Per Petterson won the Nordic Council Literature Prize 2009 for his work 'Jeg forbanner tidens elv'.

In a poetic and quiet language Petterson brings across just how difficult it is to say to each other those things we feel are the most important," wrote the Adjudication Committee.

The Nordic Council's Literature Prize is awarded for a work of imaginative literature written in one of the Nordic languages. This can be a novel, a play, a collection of poetry, short stories or essays, or other work. The work must meet high literary and artistic standards.

This year, twelve candidates were nominated for the prize. The prize will be presented to Per Petterson in late October 2009 during the Nordic Council Session in Stockholm.

The Literature Prize, presently worth DKK 350,000, is awarded every year. The prize has been awarded since 1962.
