Svolvaer in the Lofoten region has a rich cultural life. There are galleries on almost every second corner, and many artists live and work in this region.
Hans Ragnar Mathisen’s exhibition ”Arctic perspectives” in the North Norwegian Artist Centre on the main square of Svolvaer was opened on October 23th. The exhibition marks his 40th anniversary as a visual artist and is a retrospective on his artistic work during this period. The exhibition includes graphic works, paintings and drawings, alltogether 91 works.
- I have been waiting so long to get an exhibition in Svolvaer, that when it finally happens I shall drown you in pictures, Mathisen said.
Earlier the same day the association of North Norwegian Visual Artists arranged a seminar on the theme “A region with opportunities”. Several artists participated, as well as representatives from the municipality and county.
Before the seminar the Nordic Culture Point gave information about The Nordic Council of Ministers Art and Culture Programme and Nordic-Baltic Mobility Programme for Culture, and also gave advice on how to avoid pitfalls when writing applications for funding of culture projects.
