The objectives of our 3 projects Vertical Exile (West Bank, Copenhagen & Stockholm suburbs) was not fully met:  give/share different workshops and performances in a short period of time, due too many activities was given in not enough time to  be able to really transmit creative tools and knowledge for the community so they could continue the work after we left.

This limitation is added to an observation we had while working in Vertical Exile-West Bank 2009, to use small roof tops of buildings and corners full of garbage for small gardens. And this is how we pass from Vertical Exile to Vertical Gardening in 2010.

In Vertical Gardening we reach for a practical concretization of collective ideas through one action: planting. In VG we take advantage from the space, to plant on the roofs, windows and walls of the refugee camp, with the objective of embellishing the camp and possible making a micro-economy in the future, and as a strategy to discuss the organization and use of public space in complex environments and the creation of public arenas for meetings. We think of the project as a fantasy in reality.

The aim is to spread gardens in as many as possible refugee camps in the West Bank within the next 5 years.

In Vertical Gardening we combine production of social imaginaries with practical concretization of collective ideas through one action: planting. Together with the communities of refugee camps, students and local artists, we use the space available in the camp, planting on the roofs, windows and walls.

The objective is to embellish the camp and build a micro-economy, as well as finding strategies to discuss the organization and use of public space in complex environments and the creation of public arenas for meetings.

Our aim is to spread gardens in as many as possible refugee camps in the West Bank within the next 5 years.
